Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall

To commemorate the significant historical event of the successful conclusion of the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party ("Yida") at Nanhu, the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall was established in 1959 with the direct support of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Zhejiang Provincial Committee. Initially, the memorial hall was located on an island in the center of the lake. On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Party in July 1991, a new Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall, funded by donations totaling 3.2 million yuan from the people of Jiaxing, was constructed on the eastern shore of Nanhu. Deng Xiaoping personally inscribed the name of the hall. The main exhibit in the hall is the "Historical Materials Exhibition of the First National Congress of the CPC," which systematically introduces the history of Chinese people's continuous exploration and struggle to seek ways to save the country since the Opium War of 1840. It covers the growth of the Chinese working class, the spread of Marxism in China, the establishment of communist groups, and the eventual founding of the Communist Party of China, with a particular focus on the historical process of the Party's establishment. Since its establishment, the memorial hall has been visited by numerous Party and state leaders, including Dong Biwu, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Wen Jiabao. Since 1959, the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall has leveraged its unique political status and educational resources to play a significant role in "learning from the past to guide the future and educating people through history." In 1997, the hall was named one of the first patriotic education demonstration bases by the Central Propaganda Department. In 2006, it was also named one of the first "Zhejiang Province Clean Government Culture Education Bases." To further enhance the image of the birthplace of the Party and maximize the political advantages of being the source of red culture, as well as its role as a national patriotic education demonstration base and a training base for Party members, the construction of a new memorial hall was officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in October 2005, with the consent of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Propaganda Department. After several years of development and construction, a majestic new Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall was completed on the southern shore of Nanhu. The new hall faces south and consists of three buildings arranged in a "工" (Gong) shape, characterized by solemn and grand architectural style, with a total building area of 19,633 square meters. It includes features such as exhibition displays, artifact collections, multimedia presentations, and an academic lecture hall. The use of advanced multimedia technologies such as sound, light, and electricity vividly, concretely, and graphically showcases the spread of Marxism in China and the historical background of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. The new hall opened to the public on June 30, 2011.
