Meiwan Street is an area in Jiaxing City known for its concentration of traditional local residences, preserving numerous historical sites, including the former residence of Zhu Shenghao, a renowned translator of Shakespeare. The overall design of Meiwan Street is based on the architectural style of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China Jiangnan water town residences, featuring elements such as blue bricks, black tiles, floral windows, and intricately carved beams and painted rafters.
The newly opened Meiwan Street district has a total investment of 480 million yuan and covers an area of 100,000 square meters. It consists of Meiwan Food City, Meiwan New World, Meiwan Commercial Street, Meiwan Old Street, and a business district. The area has attracted over 100 businesses, including century-old specialty stores, antique shops, and handicraft shops. This district includes various cultural and historical sites such as the Jinjiu Refuge, the Chu Fucheng Historical Materials Exhibition Room, the Jiangnan Shadow Play Hall, the Jiahe Wedding Customs Hall, the former residences of Wang Huzhen, Zhu Shenghao, and Shen Junru.
