Southwest Lake Ecological Park is located in Nanhu District, Jiaxing City, south of the Nanhu Bridge. Covering a total area of approximately 37.47 hectares, it stands as the most significant ecological oasis and a rare natural wetland park in the city center of Jiaxing. The park aims to serve as a model of ecological civilization in Jiaxing through two primary design strategies: "ecological restoration" and "slow traffic connectivity." The park features various service facilities and landscape nodes, offering numerous activities that allow visitors to connect with nature. These activities include water sports such as dragon boat racing, wetland science education, fishing, boating, and water robot competitions. Forest activities include forest jogging, forest yoga, forest camping, and family gatherings. Cultural and artistic activities include photography, art installations, theater and music festivals, and outdoor painting sessions. The design of Southwest Lake emphasizes the protection and restoration of the existing ecological base and the creation and construction of a water purification wetland system to enhance regional water quality and restore the wetland landscape. An aerial corridor bridge connects Southwest Lake with Nanhu and Citizen Square, creating a multi-level, barrier-free slow traffic tour system. The addition of waterside platforms and diverse spaces increases areas for public water-related and leisure activities. The design reflects the spirit of the Red Boat and promotes the concept of being water-friendly and people-friendly. It aims to recreate the charm of the Grand Canal, reshape the Jiangnan (south of the Yangtze River) aesthetic, expand the red tourism resources of Nanhu, and develop a humane and internationalized red tourism area.
