The Jiaxing Zicheng Site is located in the Nanhu District of Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It was first built during the Huanglong era of the Wu Kingdom in the Three Kingdoms period, making it over 1,790 years old. During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period, the Zicheng Site housed the palace of the Taiping leader, known as the "Seven-Level Heaven" due to its grand scale.
In 2017, archaeological excavations were conducted at the Jiaxing Zicheng Site, exploring the location of the eastern city wall and dissecting the northern city wall. The excavations revealed the city wall dating back to the Five Dynasties period and clarified the location, specifications, and the starting date of the Ming and Qing Dynasty halls within the Zicheng Site. The Jiaxing Zicheng Site served as the location of the prefectural government office throughout Jiaxing's history and as the former residence of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom leader. It has long been the political, economic, cultural, and military center of Jiaxing city, representing well-preserved and clearly evolved remnants of county, prefectural, and government office sites.
On October 7, 2019, the Jiaxing Zicheng Site was announced as one of the eighth batch of nationally significant cultural heritage sites by the State Council of the People's Republic of China, signifying its importance for preservation and protection.
