Lake Center Island is located in the center of South Lake, with a total area of 17 mu. The history of the island can be traced back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the 27th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1548), the magistrate of Jiaxing, in order to dredge the market river, filled soil into the lake, thus forming Lake Center Island. There are many pavilions and buildings on the island, such as the main building Misty Rain Pavilion, Qinghui Hall, Little Penglai, Laixu Pavilion, Jian Pavilion, Baomei Pavilion, and Visiting Trace Pavilion, which form a complex of ancient garden buildings. Pavilions, rockeries and corridors, ancient trees and monuments, all of which are in perfect harmony, create a unique and typical Jiangnan garden scenery on the island.
