Little Yingzhou Island, also known as Xiaoyingzhou, is located in the northeast part of South Lake, facing Yan Yu Tower on the central island from a distance. It is commonly referred to as "Little South Lake" or "Little Yan Yu Tower." This small island was constructed during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, formed by piling up silt dredged from the city river, covering an area of approximately 8 acres. Initially, it served as a place for fishermen to dry their nets, but it gradually became a popular tourist spot and was developed into a lakeside park in 1959. During the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty, a local organization in Jiaxing known as the "Xi Zi Society" built a three-room shrine on the northern part of the island. This shrine was dedicated to Cangjie, the legendary inventor of Chinese characters, who was honored as "Sage Cang" to show respect. At the southern end of the island, there is a famous rock from Jiangnan called the "Dancing Dragon Stone." The stone is 3 meters high and 2 meters wide, believed to be a relic from the Tang Dynasty, although some claim it is from the late Song Dynasty's "Flower Rock Convoy." The stone is inscribed with the characters "Dancing Dragon" in seal script, attributed to the great Yuan Dynasty calligrapher Zhao Mengfu. Xiaoyingzhou is connected to the lakeside park to the north by a zigzag bridge, making it a popular spot for Jiaxing residents to visit with their families on weekends and holidays.
