Lanxiu Garden is located on the west side of South Lake in Jiaxing, covering an area of over 11,300 square meters. The name Lanxiu Garden originates from the "Zhejiang Tongzhi": " To the east, Xiushui connects with the Hu River; to the west, it controls Yu Creek. It embraces the entire region, uniquely capturing its beauty." It is a thematic park within the South Lake scenic area, focused on cultural relics and stone inscriptions. Many of the stone inscriptions in Lanxiu Garden were created by renowned calligraphers and painters from various dynasties, including Wen Zhengming, Zhao Zhiqian, He Shaoji, Wu Changshuo, and Ren Bonian. These inscriptions hold significant historical and artistic value. Among them, the Tang Dynasty stone engraving of "Sea-Faring Guanyin" by Wu Daozi is especially noteworthy, portraying a vivid and lifelike image. Another treasure of the garden is the Ming Dynasty inscription by the famous calligrapher Dong Qichang, titled "Jiaxing Prefecture School Rebuilds Minglun Hall," consisting of over 1,100 characters. The writing flows smoothly and exhibits an elegant style. Lanxiu Garden’s unique stone inscriptions embody deep historical, cultural, and artistic significance, making it a key cultural relic protection unit in Jiaxing. In March 2015, the Jiaxing Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall was opened within Lanxiu Garden. This "Intangible Cultural Heritage" hall is arranged across four courtyard sections and uses various methods—such as physical displays, recreated scenes, photographs, and audio-visual presentations—to comprehensively introduce most of Jiaxing’s intangible cultural heritage projects, allowing visitors to experience their charm up close.
